This place is the Bay Area’s best-kept secret. My source asked that it be kept that way, but Cris and Tom Anderson’s Petaluma farm is far too special to keep from needy dogs who would otherwise be sent to kennels. Although it is located an hour and a half north of most East Bay cities, it is worth every mile. Cris’s background in training guide dogs for the blind gives her a special sensitivity. Dogs instinctively love her, and they are all treated like royalty. The Andersons’ new ten-acre facility opens this summer and will feature huge runs and enclosed play-group areas as well as open space. Dogs play in the pool and take regular naps during the day. In the evening they listen to music and eat cookies before going to sleep in their individual dog beds.
